OpenSuse Leap: authentication cannot connect to server

Hi,

I'm trying to get S3D working on my OpenSuse Leap 42.2 PC. After running the LaunchScript.sh file (as normal user or as root), and entering the username and password, I get the message that no connection can be made with the authentication server. S3D is not started. However, when I run the same software on Ubuntu in a virtual machine on the same PC, it does connect and S3D is started. Firewalls are not an issue. S3D support stopped their effort to help me saying that apparently OpenSuse has strayed away from compatibility with S3D. Meanwhile I'm stuck with a 150$ program which does not work for me.

Any options available to get this running?

Could it be an option to transfer the licence file from the ubuntu virtual machine to my OpenSuse PC?

That error definitely means that something is blocking the software from reaching the internet. So it's hard to give many suggestions other than to say check your VM network settings and any external network gear that could be blocking the connection.

Re: OpenSuse Leap: authentication cannot connect to server

If there would be a network problem, the VM with Ubuntu (which is a guest to the host on which S3D does NOT work) would also not work.
When I run tcpdump, clearly the server in the US is reached and replies. Moreover I have no other software complaining about the internet connection to fail. S3D support claimed that no unusual ports are being used, so from that point it is also unlikely that something gets blocked.

Hi,

any update on this topic? I'm facing the same problem. On a Windows VM on top of my Opensuse it works. On the underlying Opensuse I get the same problem. But support keeps telling me, that it "has to be my firewall".

Well being that I run S3D on an opensuse install without any issues, I'd be inclined to agree with them. It probably has to do with your network, firewall, routing or security settings.
