Changing heads on Tax 6...

Hi,

Just wondering what if I have to change anything other than the esteps in the firmware when switching between different extruders on the Taz 6?

i.e. what is the procedure in S3d for changing extruder heads in general?

THANKS!

The only thing I can think of in S3D would be changing the nozzle diameter if your extruder has a new nozzle size. Otherwise, everything else should be setup in the firmware.

I'm pretty sure you have to at least change the esteps because the guide on the Lulzbot website mentions it specifically and how to do it... and there are tags on the back of the extruders with the correct number of esteps for that extruder. Just wondering if there are any other dimensional settings that would have to be altered in S3d for different extruders. The S3d firmware setup mirrors the Cura setup exaxctly for the T6 but it's the firmware alteration for each extruder that I'm curious about...

You don't need to change E steps/mm in S3D, only in the firmware. So again, nozzle diameter is the only thing I can think of in S3D to change. All other changes should be in the firmware.

Yes - understood but you can use S3d to change this in the firmware correct? I was asking if there were any other changes to the firmware that are necessary when changing extruders - i.e. dimensions etc

Re: Changing heads on Tax 6...

From S3D you can send gcode commands to the firmware to update the values. S3D does not change anything inside the firmware.
For Extruder head replacement, ESteps per mm is the only parameter that needs to be changed in the firmware. Sometimes, if you are upgrading to a all metal, you can increase the max temp value

Thanks - that's what I thought - was just wondering of the build area dimensions would be any different for different extruders or does Lulz make them so the nozzles are all basically in the same place?

See here:

And changing setting using S3d as described here:

You may have to adjust a build area slightly, but that can be done on S3D. Using Build volume and origin offsets if required. I personally have not tried different extruders, so not sure if the size is different. but I hope they did account for the nozzle position.
