XYZ Printing Mini WiFi info, please.

Hi, first time on the forum, first time user of S3D.
I have the aforementioned 3D printer. I see that XYZ printingda Vinci Mini is listed:

Your XYZprinting Da Vinci Mini is supported!
When you open Simplify3D for the first time, you’ll be prompted to select your printer from a drop-down list. This will automatically apply the optimal settings for your printer and make it easier to create amazing 3D prints.

So, here is my question, will using Simplify3D permit me to use 3rd party Filament or am I still a slave to the proprietary stuff they sell?

The mini and Jr both use NFC chips in the spools of filament. Simplify3d has no control over that, if you want to hack it follow these:
