Sloping internal features

I have a part that has a conical shape inside. Imagine a funnel laying on the printbed with the wide end down. Like that.
I've kept that angle as shallow as I can, and it works in ABS, but in PLA I'm having trouble. It seems like those surfaces might be printed better as bridging, but without support material.

Is there a way to force this or help Simplify detect and handle it?

It sounds more like an overhang than a bridge. Have you tried the stuff mentioned here?

Increasing the cooling, slowing down the outline speed, and perhaps even lowering the temperature a bit should all help with the overhangs

Ok, I will give that a shot.

funel - I assume circular shape? no benefit of bridging there.. the inside of a funnel is about the worse scenario for the overhang there is.
PLA should be lot easier to handle that then ABS!! so if you have it other way around you need to properly calibrate your printer and increase cooling :)

major thing that helps with inside of the funnel overhang type wall is the "extruded width" - increase it! for 0.4mm nozzle try 0.6mm extruded with - does wonders for such shapes :D. next parameter that helps a lot with all type of overhangs, including this one, is layer height - thinner the layer easier is to print the overhang. and finally speed - any circular printing benefits from slower printing.. anyhow, increasing extruded width is the no1 thing you want to try in this case
gcodestat integrates with Simplify3D and allow you to
Calculate print time accurately (acceleration, max speed, junction deviation all taken into consideration)
