Missing layers at the start of a print

Hello,

I am new to 3d printing and just recently purchased a CR10 printer. I'm loving the printer but I'm running into an issue and after searching online I have been unable to find someone else that has posted the same thing. My prints start and complete without any gaps or noticeable issues but the print doesn't start where I would think it would start. I didn't realize this until I tried printing a cylinder laying on its side. Obviously this wouldn't print correctly normally so I split the model down the middle and was just going to print two halves and glue them together to make the cylinder. However, when printing this model I don't end up with two halve cylinders. It is printing about 25% of each one of the halves. It is acting as if the model wasn't sitting at 0 inside the Simplify3d application although it is. I centered the model and visually it shows up correct in the slicer. Any guidance on this issue would be beneficial because missing the first 4 or 5 layers on small objects will create big problems on larger builds that need to fit together.

Thanks.

Re: Missing layers at the start of a print

Hello,

i am a novice myself, but hey. Just two shots in the dark:
  • Have you set the correct machine build volume in options? In Simplify3D follow the pulldown menu "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Machine". For the Creality 3D printer CR10 it should be set to 300 x 300 x 400mm.

As you said, until now anything else is running fine yet. Since your printer does not even try to print those missing parts, the reason could be a broken *.STL file (3D Modell file).

If you really miss 4-5 Layers but your model is sticking to the bed you either:

- have your nozzle way to close to your bed https://www.simplify3d.com/support/prin ... t-of-print
or
- your model position is not flat on your bed (in S3D) but slightly underneath it. That way. everything that is underneath the bed, will be cut of during the slicing process.

I bet a dime one the first one.

Re: Missing layers at the start of a print

Hello,

Have you found the source of your issue ? I am having the same issue with my Tevo Tornado with multiples models. It is not a first layer issue. The first 4 layers are not printed at all, as if the print was started on the 5th one, and only one bottom layer is printed instead of the 3 setup in S3D. Models are well placed in the software, with a simple flat surface "center and arranged". See the attached picture. I suspect that there is a software configuration on the printer, but I don't know what to look for :(
