S3D v4.0.1 Bug Reports

I just installed S3D v4.0.1 on a second PC here and immediately ran into some issues with it.

1. No Auto-Rotate View
View > Auto-Rotate View was not available. I have no idea of how to get it back or if it is even possible to.

2. Rendering Problems with Some Acceleration Modes
My solid objects (model and build plate/printer) were transparent. I loaded the same model on PC 1 that was running S3D 4.0.0 and all was fine.
Googling for the problem/solution netted nothing.
A comparison of settings between 4.0.0 and 4.0.1 revealed new configuration items in Tools > Options > Visualization > Acceleration Mode
This looked like a good place to start so I changed the value from Automatic to Disable Hardware Acceleration, restarted S3D and it fixed the rendering issue. Of course I couldn't leave 'well enough' alone and had to try the other settings. Compatibility Mode introduced the transparent rendering issue again.
Things really went sideways when I tried Native Hardware Acceleration mode. S3D would no longer start on my machine!
I tried almost everything including disabling all but the main monitor/video card, rebooting, registry hacks to disable video hardware acceleration in the Win10 OS, deleting the S3 settings in my user profile and uninstalling and re-installing S3D. Nothing fixed it.
Finally I recovered S3D when I went rooting through the registry and found the accelerationMode key and set it to 0. This changed the setting to automatic allowing S3D to start and then I promptly changed it to Disable Hardware Acceleration.
This is the full path of the registry key that sets the Acceleration Mode.
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Simplify3D\S3D-Software\MainOptions\accelerationMode

S3d 4.0.1 Acceleration Mode = Automatic (default) = BAD

S3d 4.0.1 Acceleration Mode = Disable Hardware Acceleration = GOOD

Hope this helps save someone else some time.

Re: Problems with v4.0.1

Auto rotate??? Rotate is a symbol on the taskbar on the right side (variable). In the main menue VIEW it is not listet (but I havn't missed it because never used).
If no object is loaded, the Rotate-Tool has no reaction but that seems ok.

Re: Problems with v4.0.1

Auto-Rotate View does a continuous animation of a slow rotation about the Z axis.
Not a really important command but it can be a nice way to visualise your models.

Here it is in the v4.0.0 menu bar.

Re: Problems with v4.0.1

ok, I'm sorry,it is here in my 4.0.1 installation. The dropdown-menue reachs to the ohter textes in the main menue and "Auto-Rotate" covers "Import / Remove"

... also never used ;-)

really mysterios !!!
I ended S3D and restarted the program, the menue point was now not visible.

Re: Problems with v4.0.1

Hi,

I'll add something here instead of creating separate thread. Hope this doesn't bother anyone...

no 3.
s3d-1.jpg
Wrong Z height shown - should be 0,2 and shows as 1mm

no 4.
s3d-2.jpg
Calibration STL downloaded from thingiverse - bridges are ok
s3d-3.jpg
I've created this one for better bridging calibration - bridges are all wrong (generated sideways - same settings as the above).

Re: Problems with v4.0.1

Hi szafran,

Might be be a good thing to keep v4.0.1 issues in the same thread. Perhaps it will get the attention of S3D support. With that in mind I have renamed the thread S3D v4.0.1 Bug Reports.

Could you edit you post though to make the items you discovered numbers 3 and 4. I've got 1 and 2 ;)

Cheers,

Re: S3D v4.0.1 Bug Reports

szafran's second item......item 4 as per TekMason........is not a bug/issue. The bridging algoritm tries its best to determine the angle for the bridging extrusions. For where it's unable to reliably determine the angle, there's a setting Use fixed bridge infill angle, where the desired angle can be specified by the user.

Re: S3D v4.0.1 Bug Reports

In my opinion it is a bug (Slic3r cuts this properly). And what that option would do if on the same height there will be bridges in different directions ? (hint: it would be totally useless).

Re: S3D v4.0.1 Bug Reports

no. 5. The third process in the attached factory file should generate a brim attached to the object that is 5 outlines wide. Instead it generates a 1 outline skirt like for the rest of the objects.

Re: S3D v4.0.1 Bug Reports

@ szafran

What ever you want to reach, your process settings are very faulty.

Try:
Skirt layers 999
Distance 2 mm or more
Outlines 1 or 2
