Gotham Pixel wrote:I'm having problems getting prints to start consistently. The extruder isn't being primed enough, it takes several skirts just to get anything to come out of the hot end and many times it will start well into the first or second layer.
When it does start, the flow rate appears to be good. I don't have any problems with printing files sliced in Cura. What settings can help with this?
Thanks,

add a higher value to your purge in the starting script. currently for UltiMaker2, s3d has this:
Code: Select all
G28 ; home all axes
G0 X100 Y10 ; Bring extruder to the front
G92 E0 ; zero the extruded length
G1 E8 F225 ; purge nozzle with 8mm of filament
G92 E0 ; zero the extruded length again
line G1 E8 225, change the 8 to a higher value. it corresponds to the mm of filament to extrude to purge. you may want to check some of your other settings as well to see why your filament is really high in your extruder at the start of prints.

Also, when using dual extruders, how can you get both extruders to lay down a skirt? It would seem that this should work: Edit Process Settings > Layer/Right Extruder > [check] Include Skirt/Brim > Set Distance > Select Left Extruder > [check] Include Skirt/Brim > Set some different distance (maybe S3D should know this from the right extruder settings).
But it doesn't. My point is this: All the pieces there in the S3D GUI. Most people using dual extruders want to do this for every print. It would seemingly be a simple improvement. Better than blasting out a blob just to have it dragged into your part.
your question probably shouldve been posted as a separate topic... instead of posted a couple times in different threads...
anyways:
1. make 2 profiles, make sure
both is set instead of just left or right.
2. make one profile not generate supports, this will print the main part of your object. skirt layers >= layers in your object.
3. make the other profile generate support with your support extruder. also do zero top, bottom, shells, and infill. skirt layers >= layers in your object. skirt offset a bit higher than your offset in profile one.
4. make a new thread if you have any issues.
