Hi,
I need to slice an STL file vertically so I only print one part of the file. For example, If you have the letters ABCD on the grid in Simplify3D, I need to just print the A and none of the other letters. I know how to slice it horizontally by layer but I can't find anything on eliminating a part of the file you don't want to print like the example above.
Can this be done?

Normally you would do this in the design program.
In Slic3r you can cut a model up likeyou want. Also look at netfabb or meshmixer for this.
In S3D you could kind of do it but it would be a few steps.
Take the model and flip its orientation on the bed so you can "lower" it through the bed to sort of cut off the part you don't want and then print like that or go to the file menu and save it as a new STL and then open that one.
