How does Auto bed leveling work?

Hey all,

Id like to join the light side and stop manually leveling my printer especisally since I have an inductive probe and BLtouch awaiting use,

However some basic questions im still a bit confused about.

For all my S3D profiles I have my first layer settings all set to 100% (except speed) I adjust my Z level by changing the Z offset to a positive value or negative. Now say for one print job I prefer to use -.10 Z offset but for another I prefer +.1 Z offset how do I tell my inductive probe or BLtouch to now level based on that desired value? Is that something that is passed within the startup gcode for whatever sensor is being used?

Im also using an Azteeg Mini running smoothieware.

Are there particular reasons why larger printers dont use auto bed leveling?

Does auto bed leveling compensate for a Z axis that might be slightly out of sync?

Thanks in advance!
