slicer failing to handle threads

Trying to print this part on my Flashforge Creator X: https://github.com/mzbotreprap/VORON/bl ... ial_x2.stl

And I end up with this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vdqye9ynr5bg4 ... 9.jpg?dl=0

As you can see from the photo, the threads are all fubar.

I tried printing both in->out and out->in with the same results. My printer is calibrated and is dimensionally accurate and since I've printed dozens of other parts using Simplify3D and haven't had any problems, I'm 99% sure this is a problem with the slicer in S3D.

Re: slicer failing to handle threads

Ypdate: I tried printing the same part via MakerWare and the threads printed just fine. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time dialing in the dimensional accuracy with MakerWare so the part doesn't fit. So clearly my printer / filament (eSUN ABS+) is capable of printing this, just S3D isn't driving the printer correctly.

Can't see any of the pictures..
If there is nothing wrong with the SLT file, go to advanced tab and allow single extrusion walls and allow single extrusion fill then prepare to print and check the preview.

Re: slicer failing to handle threads

Interested in feedback on this issue. I saw this a lot before switching to using trapezoidal threads on my parts.

Re: slicer failing to handle threads

So I did as you said, the print preview looks ok, or at least I don't see anything wrong: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b9xh9jka4ihfy ... m.png?dl=0

But when I print it, it ends up looking pretty much like before with the plastic printed more like a octagon (actually it has something like 10 or 12 sides) and bridging with air gaps.

Re: slicer failing to handle threads

This is not "failing to handle threads".....but "perimeters not adhering to infill". You'd have exactly the same issue if you had a small sharp interior curve in the outside edge.

What I see in your photo is possibly under-extrusion and/or printing at too low a temperature, or too high a printing speed for perimeters.....or a combination of one or more. You may even be trying to print with too thick a layer. Not knowing anything about your settings, I'm not able to offer any suggestions re what to change.

Re: slicer failing to handle threads

If you look at the photo carefully, it's doing straight lines between points inside the hole in an octagon like shape rather then the curve necessary for the thread. I don't see any other signs of under extrusion on the part and on any other part I've printed using the same settings. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the original Fusion360 files to modify the threads to be trapezoidal.

I used the same temp and actually ran faster mm/sec with MakerWare and it printed just fine- although the part was printed slightly too small and isn't useful for my application. :(

Anyways, I'm at work and S3D is on my personal computer at home. If anyone has a list of settings they'd like to see I'll be more then happy to write them down or take screen shots of the necessary config pages when I get home tonight.

Re: slicer failing to handle threads

Ended up talking to S3D tech support. They made a few suggestions, but the first one I tried was reducing the layer height from 0.2 to 0.1mm and that completely solved the problem

Re: slicer failing to handle threads

...which is exactly what I suggested!

Strange that!
