Strange slicing issue

Stl, factory, and gcode files are in the attached zip.

If you preview the gcode, you'll see that layer 1 is fine. However layers 2-5 only build up the borders of the base, leaving the interior hollow. Layer 6 tries to put a cap on the top of the base to start building up the main part of the model, but the print totally breaks at this point because there's no support for layer 6.

Re: Strange slicing issue

s3d has always been really sensitive to problems with a model. i ran the model through netfabb and it said it was ok but i have seen this issue many times with models that are supposed to be ok and they are no. the problem is just so small its not being picked up by netfabb but it makes s3d go nuts. since 2.1 it has become more sensitive. every time you see a layer with strange patterns in it like triangles, that is what is going on. 99% of the time if you tweak your 1st layer height up or down 1 or 2 it will slice fine. in this case it does not. in the advanced tab of you process choose "merge into a solid model". it takes everything, error and all and makes one model out of it. your model slices good with that activated.

Re: Strange slicing issue

The STL file is bad.
It contains 12 separate sub-meshes.
Merging in S3D just created different problems.

Netfabb was able to mostly fix it. (still has an odd string on top.)
(For what it's worth, Kisslicer was able to slice it okay.)

Re: Strange slicing issue

Hi Jim,
Okay I'll give up my secrets :D
I get the best results from the Web based version.
https://netfabb.azurewebsites.net

You need a Microsoft account (such as for Xbox live) but it's free and super simple. Just upload the STL and download the fixed version.

The latest beta of Kisslicer revealed the 12 sub-meshes.
