Instruction for calibration

Hi
I have built my own machine, it uses mk8 style extruder.

What is calibration method for estep/extrusion multiplier etc?

Just true estep work or does it need further calibration?
I used to do calibration in 2 ways. 1 is measuring the thin wall (printing solid cube hollow with no top/bottom and single wall) and make the extrusion equal to extrusion width (which I generally used to keep as the nozzle dia)
or other way just keeping true estep and keeping extrusion width to auto.

What method is correct for simplify3d?
I think changing extrusion multiplier to get the extrusion width to what is auto set looks correct method.

Thanks in advnace

PS I don't like 'eyeballing' method. I like to have solid math behind it

Re: Instruction for calibration

This thread talks about the method for changing steps per mm for printers using Marlin or other RepRap firmwares, if you're using Sailfish it's doable just a bit more complicated. http://forum.simplify3d.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1189.

To calibrate, I'd recommend calipers and printing out a calibration cube. I traditionally use the calibration cube steps 5 mm off of thingiverse and measure using calipers, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:24238

These Calipers are only 12 dollars and work great for measuring
