Re: Ball form comes loose from bed

Finally , after lots of trying , anout 1 roll of ABS , about 7 days worth of printing I got 2 usable wheelpants:

Just a pity it can not be nicely printed in 1 go. but this is acceptable. just finishing with sanding and putty before the final color.

Next week I will print one in PLA and PEtg . but last week I put a piece of PLA ( Prusa logo) outside , and it is completely bend. So , I think I can not use PLA for these kind of items. Maybe Petg , but attaching the 2 halves is probably an issue.

Anyway , many thanks for you help guys!

With PETG you won't need to split the part

Really  ??

Why is that? , that means where I print a support , and I break it off , it will be a nice smooth surface?

Well no, but it shouldn't warp off the build plate.

Re: Ball form comes loose from bed

I was very happy with the wheelpants, nicely painted and installed. But I only enjoyed them 1 time ....... A big crash. Technical failure of a ball link from a servo caused the aircraft to crash ... 1 month of trial and error for the wheelpants , finnaly succes ( see left top of the picture below)...... but:

Totall loss.

Anway , new project is under its way.

But what I wanted to write is , that Yesterday I printed a 50 % wheelpant from petg , and indeed , it worked out quite well. I printed it upside down ( the hole on the top) and the bottom was with a bit of sanding and putty nice. Also a good option for items which need to be outside in the sun ( and fit in one go in the printer).

Thanks for your help ,

Re: Ball form comes loose from bed

It’s been 100ºF here lately and my Harley’s motor was 340ºF. The PLA air cover warped so, I ordered some PETG and spent Sunday tweaking&processing.

I think PETG is now dialed-in - promises to be a good (better) alternative to both ABS and PLA.

Your plane looks great - congrat’s!

These test parts were printed at Height=0.3 and look rough under magnification/zoom but, they're not. They look almost identical to PLA quality :D
