[BUG?] "Extra Inflation Distance" extending through body

Hi,

When I use the "Extra Inflation Distance" setting under the support options tab to make tiny supports a bit bigger, the supports extend through the actual object to the other side and continue there (see images).

This is annoying because it means having to clean the supports of the other side too and they leave visible traces...

Is this a bug?

No, its not a bug. Its an inappropriately large extra inflation distance being used where none is needed!

I would even doubt if support is actually needed for this part.

I know you may have exaggerated things to make your point......but lets get realistic. And if you have your setting right, the support shouldn't scar the surface of the part. I do, however, take your point about the occasional bit of support on the wrong side of the part.....but life would be boring if everything was done for you!

Re: [BUG?] "Extra Inflation Distance" extending through body

I usually use 0.4 for extra inflation distance and for the most part it is ok. I also use dense support layers so by using a small amount of inflation it allows the edge of the dense layers to extend just beyond the part and makes it a bit easier to remove by being able to break that edge loose.

Doug is right though, you're using way to much and may not even need supports.

Hi Doug, hi wirlybird,

I agree that this could be printed without supports just fine.

Question remains though, shouldn't the extra support distance feature be smart enough not to extend through existing geometry?
