[ALREADY ADDED]Double print quality with very little additional print time

I am wondering if it is possible to have the outermost layer to be half as thin as the other layers in the print. I think this could be accomplished by printing the thinner outer layer first at half thickness, then doing the rest of the layer at full thickness, and then going back and laying the second half of the outer layer.

It seems this would create a stronger part with thicker layers on the inside, print much faster with larger layers, and greatly improve surface quality with the thinner layers showing.

Someone please tell me why this is a crazy idea.

Re: Double print quality with very little additional print time

Yes, this is already possible in the current version of Simplify3D. Set the primary layer height to the fine value that you want to use for the perimeters (for example, 0.1mm). Then go to the Infill tab and change the setting to "Combine infill every 2 layers". That means the infill will only print once every 2 layers, and it will automatically print twice as thick when it does. So you would get two layers of your 0.1mm thick perimeters, and then a single layer of the 0.2mm thick infill.

Like you said, this gives you good accuracy without increasing the print time by much

Wish that was in the S3D instruction manual.. cough cough :D I did not know that and wish I had! Maybe a full PDF with the new release of S3D containing details on all the setting and how they interact would be a great feature!
