First layer adhesion is often tricky, for some materials more than others. In any case, adhesion to the print bed is mostly controlled by print temperature and print speed. We have a way in Simplify3D to set a different temperature for the first layer, so this is not a problem. For the print speed however, there is currently no way (except using different processes which is cumbersome) to set a fixed speed for the first layer. Only a percentage from the normal speed. This is not at all optimal, since we often print internal perimeters and infill with a much higher speed than outer perimeters, leading to differences in speed for the first layer too.
I agree so much with this. Having the first layer speed as a percentage makes no sense at all. I am always having to mess with this setting any time I change my speed. This setting should be a fixed speed that over rides all speeds for all features. Or at least we should be able to choose to do this. You know, sort of like slic3r? I think s3d is really walking on the edge here. If slic3r or cura or anything else had the ability to insert custom placed supports, s3d would be out of business. I understand there trying to keep things simple but some things seems so simply obviously less than ideal.
Slic3r Prusa Edition can now have custom supports. It's not as easy to use as S3D but it will probably become better over time. S3D is great but lacking some basic stuff.
