What would cause a print to inflate vertically?

I'm printing an object that is approximately 3 x 4 inches and 4mm thick (Z height) and flat.
After about 4 or 5 layers, the print nozzle seems to get closer and closer to the print and I begin to get drags and blobs in the print so the only way to correct the problem is to adjust the bed height manually to increase the distance between the nozzle and the printed object.

I have to readjust the bed height several times during the build just to keep the nozzle from crashing into the printed object. Never had this happen before. It happens on several different printers if printing the same object.

However, it only happens with this one build. Another similar object of nearly identical dimensions prints perfectly. Therefore it appears to be an issue with the GCode and not the printer.

What settings in the GCoode could cause this?
