[FIXED] Getting rid of unwanted gap fill

Hi Everyone! I'm hoping someone here can tell me how to get rid of unwanted gap fill. At least, I think it is a gap fill.

I'm printing a closed volume without any infill or support. The surface has a 1mm deep texture, and it seems S3D is adding a gap fill on some of the more extreme overhangs. I don't want or need this gap fill, it messes with keeping my surface smooth. But I haven't found a way to stop S3D from generating them. Do you know how?

Re: Getting rid of unwanted gap fill

It you have a sphere with a wall width of 1 mm (~2 perimeters of 0,5 mm extrusion width) the wall level becomes more and more flat when the surface is closing at the top.

This cause that the one or two perimeter of the wall is stretched and the printer can not close the surface without adding more materiel. And this can only happen with additional perimeters named External Fill Pattern. Without this there will be holes.
You can't avoid it.
To improve the optical outfit of the surface set the number of perimeters to 10 or 12, S3D will use the right number automatically.
Additional set in the upper areas 2 or 3 prozesses with a layer high more and more small, at last as small as the printer allows.

Re: Getting rid of unwanted gap fill

I found out they were top layers. Made to processes for the volume, limited with height parameters, and gave the bottom part 0 top layers. This solved my problem.

PS: the above solution is the opposite of what I was trying to achieve. But the answer and effort is appreciated!

Re: Getting rid of unwanted gap fill

I’m happy to state that this issue should be resolved now in the latest 4.1.0 release. Our team successfully tested similar models as were displayed in your images. The extra solid layer sections are no longer included. This was just one of many improvements to the software. All of which are detailed on our Release Notes page.

Thank you for your help reporting this issue!
