Hi All --

I've just updated my Simplify3D Settings Manual - including updates through S3D v4.1.1.

The new version is available for download near the bottom of this page: https://breathflute.com/download.htm

Feedback is always welcome!

Re: S3D Settings Manual

Clint,

First of all, THANK YOU! This is an incredible bit of work, and even after 2 years of playing with S3D, I learned a lot.

If I may, I'd like to make a couple suggestions for additional details the next time you get bored...

The section on cooling doesn't mention issues with modern fans. They use an internal circuit to run the motor, and unlike an old fashion DC motor, the speed you get is NOT what you would expect from the settings in S3D. On my printer, anything below ~ 45% speed is meaningless, and the fan shuts off completely. Here's a thread that discusses what's going on http://forum.makergear.com/viewtopic.ph ... =10#p35435

Also, the cooling speed setting in S3D for short layer times can be very confusing. It's not just "turn on the fan to X% if the layer time is below time T". Here's a thread that discusses this: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11832#p46436. I still don't fully understand the algorithm they use, and if it works the way I think it does, you run the risk of damaging your cooling fans. There's additional info here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8890

The other area where you might consider adding info is on extrusion multiplier setting. There is a new approach that was recently posted on the S3D forum that makes sense tom me, but I have to admit I haven't tried it yet. The idea is that a single wall calibration doesn't tell the whole story, because the width you measure doesn't account for the amount the filament bows out when it isn't next to an adjacent pass. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13746
