Problems with support material

Hi,

Just bought Simplify3D in hope to get good automatic support material design. I have two problems.

First is that I often see that parts, protruding parts, that never gets any support material underneath them.

The second is that Simplify3D crashes if I first use Mesh Reduce and then add support.

Yeah, one other thing. Have been trying to do a multi color print with two .stl files. Doing the center and arrange with Shift key and then turn 90 degrees the models gets dis-aligned not printable.

Hope to see these things gets fixed.

Thanks,
Edward

Re: Problems with support material

Please post a picture or an example where the support is not added. If the feature is small you wll need to lower the resolution of the support grid.

Here is what I get...

But you are right. Lowering the Support Pillar Resolution adds more pillars...will try to see how that works.

Re: Problems with support material

Ahh yes those pieces are narrow. Lower the resolution. You have to remember that support is on a grid structure and if the part of the model that goes over the grid square is smaller than the square itself then it wont be activated. Lower the grid size. You can go down to 1-2mm and see what happens then also set your support inflation to maybe .6-1mm.

Re: Problems with support material

As JimC says, increase the support resolution (lower number) or manually add supports where you need them. This way you can use a lower resolution for a faster print. I rarely use automatic support placement.
