Infill alignment and start settings

I'm trying to optimize my infill so that if I print multiple objects (to change color) the infill aligns perfectly across the multiple objects, but I'd also like to optimize the infill so that sparse infill can be used to target certain parts of the model.

So if I simply print 3 cylinders and start them at different z-offsets then everything is aligned, but it appears that if the cylinders have different internal or external features I can't get the infills to align.

This is a feature cura supports:

https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/issues/2412

This is really two use cases:
  • I want infill to be consistently aligned across prints, i.e. a fixed global start point irregardless of model
  • I want to be able to adjust the global starting point for infill to adjust the infill so that it can more optimally match the model
