Connecting Makerbot Replicator 2X to Machine CP

Capture.PNG
Been trying this for half a day and I am at a loss.

Installed all the drivery-doos, plugged in all the fidgety digits and I still cant establish a connection to the printer over USB. I've gotten other machines to connect on my other station (with an Anycubic Kossel LP) so I know I'm not just a dunce.

It's reading on Makerbot Desktop, the monitor has the right temperatures from the thermistors, but obv I want S3D's much more handy print interface. And yes I tried to connect to S3D before starting MBDT. It's on the latest firmware for the 2X (7.6). Any ideas?

You use MakerBot's supplied slicing software, so, I think you've got it's print service running in background...which will have got hold of the port.

If I'm right, you'll need to shut the service down....but I can't remember where the setting is within the software. I had this problem some five years ago....

Re: Connecting Makerbot Replicator 2X to Machine CP

Its called "Background Service" and its something in Makerware or MakerBot Print. I think the menu item is Services....and the options are Start Stop...or something like that.

Its not a windows utility, so will not show up in task manager as such....and it runs as part of the MakerBot background task that either starts when you start MakerBot's software...or as a Windows startup.

Nuked the program, 'show processes from all users' required to find it. Connects and controls now thank you.

Well control is a strong word, since it doesn't read Gcode commands eg. G28.

Your printer is using a variant of Sailfish firmware so sending gcodes directly doesn't work.

Re: Connecting Makerbot Replicator 2X to Machine CP

If you use the MakerBot Replicator 2 printer profiles from S3D, then the gcode is automatically converted using a utility to give an .x3g suffix file that the printer will read.

I always copy the two files (.gcode & .x3g ) so that I can see the gcode and print profile used.AND have the file to throw at the printer!

That makes me sad. I'm sad now.
