Audio driver crash when s3d is open

Just making a follow up here in addition to my contact at the support team in hopes of more eyes / brains for ideas.

I use a USB audio amplifier (Sennheiser gx1200). I've contacted Sennheiser about the issue and they've told me that they use the built in windows audio drivers, nothing they can do on their end.

My problem is this: When I open S3d, all audio input / output ceases and I'm greeded with a rather loud, high pitched buzzing through my headphones. The only fix is to unplug, then re-plug my amplifier. If s3d is open the crash will happen again.

The crash code given from event viewer is below. I honestly don't know where to go with this. I've also tried running s3d in various compatibility modes to no avail.

Perhaps not much help, especially as I no longer use Windows. However, as a musician I’ve had similar Windows problems (before going to Mac) when having different USB devices plugged in.

My foggy memory tells me you can try this to help identify issue.

Your Widows Control panel will be your tool:
You’ll want to discover the USB Connections each device makes. The panel will show them but, not necessarily under the Labels you think - you’ll need to expand each until identifying one’s of interest.

USB can be in ‘USB’ or in ‘Printers’... ‘Ports’... look/explore.

Disconnect and re-connect One-At-A-Time and look.

It sounds like (literally) the noise you’re hearing is the Data from Simplify3D on the Audio input line.

Naturally, look at any control/hook-up for your Amplifier.

Also, if you have the ability to run the printer from an sdCard and avoid USB, you’ll find that solves other problems too, including, Communication Timeouts, Power Drops, Ham Radio interference...

I tried unplugging everything except my display, mouse, and amplifier. No dice. Same issue.

Also tried booting windows into safe mode - same issue

Tried a USB 2.0 port - same issue

I don't think I'm hearing any 'data' as this is digital and seems to be a crash of sorts.

Have you connected your audio amp and established which COM port it is using??
Have you done the same with S3D?

Check each with the other not in use/not connected. The symptoms really do look like both trying to use the same port.

The manufacturer's documentation on your amp looks very basic...and gives no clue as to what port it might try to use, and no clue on how the port can be changed. S3D does have the capability of changing ports.

If they both have the same port, then change the port in S3D and try running both together again...

Note that when I say change the port...I don't mean unplug and plug into another USB socket...I mean change the COM port setting in software!

If you're still having issues, you could try the following advice lifted from a support page in response to a very similar error code...

Let us try these steps one by one to check if that makes any difference.
Step 1: Suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter and check if that helps.
From the Settings screen, choose Update & Security.
Select Troubleshoot. Look for Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter and run it.
Follow the on-screen direction to complete the process and if required please apply the fix it.
Once it is done, please reboot the computer and check the status.

Step 2: Suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers on the PC to check if that helps.
Press ‘Windows + R’ keys, type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run window and press Enter.
In Device Manager, expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".
Right click a device under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click uninstall.
Perform same step for other devices. When completed, restart the computer.
All USB controllers will reinstall automatically.

The ports thing was a PAIN to find in win10. I had to abandon that, but I went along the same lines.

But, it seems fixed.

Here's what I did

Go into audio device properties -> set audio quality to 16 bit dvd quality

Disable "allow applications to take exclusive control"

Go into s3d -> options -> disable automatic USB device detection
