Re: FlashForge Dreamer Simplify3D Process Profile

So far I have tried a couple of prints and the biggest problem I have is learning Simplify3d. lol I had a good print then I tried another and the print head packed it's bags and ran away from home. It went to the staging corner opposite home and tried to keep going causing the belts to jump a bit until I canceled the job. The first print went real well using the left head for support and the right for the rest of the job.

I'm pretty sure it was operator error. I think I had exited from Simplify3d after finishing the first print and then re-opened it for the second. After the second print failed before start I went back and the FlashForge Dreamer.frm wasn't listed in the firmware config. Apparently I need to import it each time I run Simplify3d.

Is there a way for Simplify3d to store the FlashForge Dreamer frm profile? I hit save but it's gone after a restart. This is on Linux Mint 17 if that makes a difference.

Re: FlashForge Dreamer Simplify3D Process Profile

Hi Baron and thank you for sharing your settings for the FF dreamer. I tried it and it works nicely except for one thing (or maybe i've done something wrong) : if I print something with the right extruder, everything is ok but with the left one, the extruder goes out of the building plate (on the left). Any idea of the problem ?
Another question : have you already tried to use these settings for dual extrusion ?
Thanks again !

Ps : if there's a chance that any people from simplify3D is reading this post, may I suggest a software update including the flashforge dreamer in the settings ? I think that more and more people are using this nice small printer.

Hey thanks for updating the profile! I've used it and it works fine, but for some reason the LEDs change colour throughout the heating period. Anyone know why?

Re: FlashForge Dreamer Simplify3D Process Profile

Latest Flashprint doesn't like the Simplify 3D files. Could you check and correct if possible. Looks as if it only accepts files ending in .g or .gx.

Thanks, your work has been a wonderful help.
Per Flashforge support:

Because gcode can not be recognized by the printer when printing from SD card. So we delete this format extension.
All you need to do is changing the extension from .gcode to .g, and the flashprint will load the file.

Re: FlashForge Dreamer Simplify3D Process Profile

Are there any updates to the profile? I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to setting parameters in s3D so I don't know how to set it up myself.

I have a Flashforge Dreamer. The machine is awesome, the software is horrible. I can't figure out how to set anything in Flashprint, how do you get to the settings so you can change things like the filament diameter and stuff like that?
(Not to point out the obvious, but it appears that our chinese friends that made this, made everything strikingly like Makerware products. Of course that all was open sourced once, but flashprint looks like they literally copied the look of Makerware exactly. The only thing missing cosemtically is the Brooklyn skyline in the background)

I need a profile that works with the left extruder because my machine didn't even come with leveled nozzles, I had to print a piece on my replicator 2 that I will have to use to level the heads if I can get time to do it. So right now the machine is leveled to the lower hanging nozzle which is on the left side.

I asked flashforge if they would be willing to provide information so we can actually use good software with their machine. They told me that the dreamer is for students and university and if I wanted a machine that was able to be used with other software I should have bought a Flashforge Creator, Creator x or Creator Pro.

Too bad their marketing didn't include this tidbit: "This printer is made with excellent hardware, then we hinder you with the worst software you can imagine. You won't be able to change parameters other than speed and temp, we don't randomize the toolpath so you had better like zippers on the sides of your prints, and our supports really suck"

Is there an active forum for this software? This forum has almost no activity at all. Is there a google groups for the software?

Re: FlashForge Dreamer Simplify3D Process Profile

Hello everyone,

I just got a Flashforge Dreamer and am trying to use Simplify3D with the two profiles that I found in this thread. I suppose that I actually only need one of the two (the dual extruder one) if I just don't use one of the two heads in the settings? However I have noticed two things;

- If I select the left head for the support structure it ignores it and just uses the right head for everything.

- On several prints that I try to do (I prepare them on simplify3D and save them to a SDcard to print directly from the printer), what happens is that the entire warm-up procedure happens (with the changing led colors and all), but then when it is ready to print (the led even changes back to white), the printer just sits there for a second or two and then just reboots?

Does anyone have any clue to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

David

Re: FlashForge Dreamer Simplify3D Process Profile

I suspect your firmware settings are wrong. The easiest thing is probably to go to Help --> Configuration Assistant and then select the FlashForge Creator Dual. That should do everything for you automatically, then just load the profiles from this thread.

Re: FlashForge Dreamer Simplify3D Process Profile

Thanks for the suggestion, it did solve the reboots :)

I still do have the problem that the I can't print anything with the left nozzle, no matter what I select in the FF Dreamer duam nozzle profile. The heating sequence works perfectly for both nozzles, but the print always comes from the right nozzle no matter what.

Do I need to change the GCODE in the profile?

Has anyone used the profile to print successfully from the left extruder?

Re: FlashForge Dreamer Simplify3D Process Profile

FYI, the "reason" for setting 80% of stepper current for PLA is to reduce the motor heat. Since the extruder motor is coupled to the main mounting bar that is supposed to cool the thermal barrier tube of the extruder and since the Dreamer is enclosed, the entire cooling system is not as effective. As such, PLA which has a low glass transition temperature can become soft passing through the filament drive section and buckle or other problems if the stepper motor is run at 100% current in a closed environment.

So yes, the 80% current for PLA makes perfect sense.
