Simlify 3d first layer issues.

Hello! Im currently using a Flashforge Creator Pro and am very new to 3d printing. I switched over to simplify 3d last night as i was tired of the lack of control in flashforges limited options in its slicer. I was having lots of issues with first layer adhesion because their software does the first layer at the same speed of every other layer and was not allowing it any time to adhere. So i switched to simplify 3d for the extra control. the issue im having is that after slicing my first part and running the printer it is at first making a bunch of random squares near where its going to print without actually extruding any material then by the time it goes to print its first layer its seriously high. I tried messing with the global z setting and currently have it at -.25 and its still too high and just curling ABS back on itself without it ever really touching the bed and compounding matters is that because its spending 30-40 seconds making invisible squares for itself a little bit of filiment is leaking out of the extruder and giving any filiment that does touch the base a much more attractive place to adhere and im left with just a ball of molten goo on the extruder. any help at all as to what direction to go next would be wonderful, so far very frustrated with this rather pricey software even if its just because of my own ignorance. Id seriously appreciate any and all help!

Flashforge Creator pro.
ABS filiment
extruder 230c
bed 110c
first layer speed 30%

and before you ask, yes the bed is immaculately clean, ive leveled it a dozen times in frustration so far and the extruder is cleaned carefully after each failed attempt.

Re: Simlify 3d first layer issues.

first off let me preface this by the fact that I too am having first layer difficulties for other reasons (although unknown) but have been using simplify3d for a while now and it is great software.

is the extruder clicking? indicating that the filament has nowhere to go and nozzle is too close to bed.

i'm not familiar with the flash forge but are you sure you have the z offset going the right direction. as in should you have it at 0.25 instead of -0.25? I only ask because that is how i've been setting my dremel 3d45.

do you have the option to "bump down" the z axis 0.1mm or so during the print? either by usb printing control panel on s3d or on the printer?

Re: Simlify 3d first layer issues.

hey Phin, thanks for the reply.

Im going in the right direction by going in -.05 increments, ive finally got the extruder to the surface and planting ABS on the bed with a -.75 setting   Now the issue im having is that its overlapping layers incorrectly. it will lay down a good first layer and then layer 2 is moving up the X axis by a lot. like 3 or 4mm a lot then the third layer another 3 or 4mm etc etc .

Im at a total loss as to what i could be doing wrong here. Never had a slicer act like this on me before. I ran the print on flashforges slicer and everything went fine so i dont think its a mechanical issue with the machine. any insight as to something i may be doing wrong in setup? Im pretty sure the only settings i changed in the profile were to slow the first layer speed down a bit and bump the bed temp up by 5c.
