FF Cx - print beyond the print area?

Image

I'm nearly finished printing out all of the STL for a Trudgy Open RC car...outside of the chassis. I tried printing this on it's side but found the supports started to collapse and the whole thing was super brittle/fragile. What I really need to do with this is to print it flat on the bed. The dimensions for the chassis should fit on the print bed for FF Creator X, which is right around 155mm wide.

In S3D, however, the display bed is smaller than the object, as you can see in the screenshot above. The two chassis STL are driving me nutty, I can't seem to figure out how to print them out and doing it flat would offer the most support / solid print.

Any suggestions?

If you know it will fit, or have a good idea it will fit, you can always try to slice it and send it to your printer to see if it prints. Worse that will happen is your gantry in the X and Y direction will attempt to go further than it actually can and not be able to get there. You'll probably hear some clicking and bumping, but you can always turn the printer off, it won't do any serious damage, just be ready to turn off the printer.

I suggest turning off the skirt, just so to save as much space as possible.

Remember that it is a 3d perspective view. Look from the front instead. I have been fooled by this view also.

One thing that's a bit wonky is if I try to use the center option

it's centered....to something. the model isn't actually centered, it's offset. Compensating for that has been tricky.
I'm not sure if that overhang would print out (which it should) or if S3D would clip that part that's not shown on the isometric bed. Main thing is if that bounding box that is shown is the bounds for the printer or if that's some arbitrary grid / box that would fit, say, all home printers.

After having some duds I did figure I'd turn the skirt and raft off - helped a bit but with the manual placement it was still not actually centered. More tests are needed!

Are you sure you have selected well your machine model. S3D shows the bed dimensions of the model choised.
