It would be really good to see my object from a perfectly flat view with no perspective. This would be very useful in preview too.
Or I am missing that this option already exists?
well you can use the little boxes on the right to get different viewing angles but there is still perspective added to it. i assume your asking for a completely flat view like you would get in a 2d program. if so i would have to second this. using cmd/lmb to move an object around the table can be tough if you need to get alignment right on something. im sure there is a name for a view like this but i dont know what its called. all the views in my cad software (rhino) are like this except the perspective viewport.
+1
I was actually going to request this one of these days.
I position mouse ears and stuff around big objects on the corners a lot and with the perspective you can't see the bottom corners. It's annoying also because the view shifts when you go to drag the piece around, so you have to keep switching back and forth between the drag view and your normal view until you finally get it where you want.
I was trying to align multiple models in the platform and the perspective views do get the way !!!!
an option to switch between the two modes quick and easily would be very useful !!!!
This feature was added in version 3.0. Go to Tools > Options (or Simplify3D > Preferences on a Mac) and select the Visualization tab. Toggle the "use orthographic camera with no perspective" option.
