You would need to take off the 4 screws on the base of the Type-A machine, then run a USB wire to the board microcontroller inside the machine. It sounds complex, but it's 4 simple screws and then you just unplug the USB currently plugged in and plug in your own.

Great tip "KeyboardWarrior"! I didn't know about this, just popped open the panel on my Type A, here's a bit more info that may be helpful:

Make sure you unplug the right USB Male plug. In my machine, there are a bunch, the right one should be running from the HUB to the electronics control board. There are two electronics boards in the printer, a Beagle Bone Black, which is the embedded linux host, and a RUMBA board. The RUMBA board uses a mini usb connector, to print over USB, you will need to connect a USB cable directly to the RUMBA board, doing this will render the Type A web interface useless as long as the RUMBA board is not plugged into the USB Hub. Also, the baud rate should be set to 230400 to successfully connect to the RUMBA board.
