Mid print filament change

I started a very long print (4500+ minutes), but now I see I will run out of filament before it is done.
The printer is a Creality Ender 3 S1 plus, being fed Gcode via USB.

Looking at videos, I saw the variable setting wizard.

1) look at the Gcode stream and find the Z height as well as the X&Y at its last location.
2) slice the model (on another PC to the Z height).
3) set the Gcode start to the X/Y location that it ended on.
4) set the print process not to print a base.
5) continue printing.

Does this sound like a viable solution?
