V5 Deletes Previous Desktop Icon and Doesn't Import Control Settings

I installed V5. My desktop icon for version 4.1.2 disappeared. The program is still there, but I had to dig around and create a new icon. Annoying, but not fatal.

The first thing I needed to do was change filament. I got the machine control program talking to my printer, fired up the hotend, and then told it to retract the filament. I expected it to import ALL of my old settings. Instead of the setting of 70 mm/min I have used for years, it ran it at 240 mm/min, and yanked the molten filament out thru my extruder before it had a chance to cool. My extruder is now coated internally with smears of molten filament, and I will have to tear it apart to clean everything. That pretty much kills my evening.

Thanks loads guys...

I let it do the import my profiles from "previous" version and had no issues. Also my desktop icons are fine.
I upgraded on two computers and no issues so far.
Odd it happened to you.

Re: V5 Deletes Previous Desktop Icon and Doesn't Import Control Settings

Just thought of something. On mine I have renamed my S3D desktop Icons to thinks like S3D 4.0, S3D 4.1.2 etc. so none of my icons were using the default name.

The profiles are all there. The problem appears to be that it didn't import my settings from the machine control panel. I changed a couple of those from the defaults, most notably, the extruder speed. I suspect the developers never thought to make sure to transfer over any of those settings. I'm on a new machine, and exported all the registry stuff from the old machine. That included my changes to the machine control panel, and they are all where I need them in 4.1.2.

It had to have changed the directories the shortcut points to, so they could have easily created a different one, or at least given me the option to rename the old one before it overwrote it.

Re: V5 Deletes Previous Desktop Icon and Doesn't Import Control Settings

I've also discovered that it doesn't SAVE the setting changes you make in the machine control panel. The extruder speed reverts to the (very high) default if you close S3D and re-open it. BAD BAD BAD

I think I will shelve V5 until I desperately need one of the new features. After all this time, I expected something a bit more well thought out and thoroughly tested. I haven't done a single print, and it's already causing problems...
