V5 with. Method X, connect via USB, Ethernet, or WiFi?

Hi all,

So awesome S3D V5 supports the Method X! Has anyone had success connecting to the printer via USB, Ethernet, or WiFi?

I’ve been unable to connect to this printer in any way whether wired via Ethernet, USB or WiFi.

My Method X is running the latest Firmware update.

Tested Printing with a .Makerbot file from USB memory stick works fine. Unfortunately this is not a usable workflow for me.

I’ve also tried generating a *.Makerbot file from V5 and then uploading the file through Makerbot’s web based couldprint. Unfortunately the .Makerbot file would not load properly.

Have you ever used USB connections with that printer, even with the stock MakerBot software? I didn't think their CloudPrint software supposed that at all. Not sure if it's even present with the latest firmware.

I seem to be having issues connecting to the printer as well.

Our Method X is network connected. I cannot find the printer when doing a "scan." I've made sure all firewalls etc are off, and still no discovery.

If I add the printer IP manually, it does find the printer. It gets the firmware version, etc, but then it just continuously receives this error moving forward and also when trying to actually print:

Connection successful!
ACTION REQUIRED: Please push the button on the machine to approve this connection.
Failed to approve this connection on the machine.


The printer does not show the prompt to authorize the connection. (We've seen this in the past with the MakerBot Print software.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same issue with the Method X, i can connect via USB but I get the same connection errors posted above when trying to connect over the network.

I am happy to report that Version 5.0.2 just added WiFi and Ethernet support for the Method X printers. You can download the new update by going to Help > Check for Software Updates within Simplify3D. We have been using the new version to print on our Method X over wifi many times with great success, so we hope it works well for you!
