Starting G Code Modifications

I've been working on a way to resume a failed print thanks to the slicer settings to start a print above a certain place.

This is possible because I use a dial gauge to level my print bed which means I know exactly where the print failed. (I can use the gauge to measure the height of the print relative to the print bed)
However, I can't seem to modify the starting g-code to prevent a collision. The proper start steps would be
Go to home location, lower build plate, THEN go to wait location.

The best I can do is get it to lower the build plate as it travels to the wait location which doesn't happen fast enough to clear the existing print.
Is it possible to make this modification?

Additionally, the Replicator 2X (with extruder upgrades) right extruder doesn't completely clear the build plate in the wait location. This means it dumps a blob of plastic on the corner of the build plate instead of stringing into space. Seems like it should be possible to have it wait in the front Right instead of the front Left.

Thank you!

Re: Starting G Code Modifications

If you post a Factory File and a picture of your bed, I could help you out with this.
