Cross Sections are hollow?

Warning...noob here. I just got S3D, and tried printing a part yesterday that was too big for my HBP. I found the cross section tool, and split the part. When it the slicing finished, the inside was filled with support material, rather than solid. I'm sure theres a setting, but I don't know what it is! Help :) Thanks for any responses

Re: Cross Sections are hollow?

im a little confused at what you have going on. the cross section in s3d is just a viewing tool as far as i know...unless i am missing something. i rarely use the function. it does not split your model. when i use it and view the inside of the model after i slice i get regular infill not support material. if you view it along x or y using the cross section tool the infill does look a little like support. if you are still having trouble maybe post a picture of what you are talking about in preview mode.

I guess I misunderstood the tool. I thought it split the part up for printing. If that's not what it does, then I need to figure out how to section it in half. Doesn't fit on my plate to print.

Re: Cross Sections are hollow?

any kind of mods to a model is always best done in your modeling software BUT what is below the build table in s3d doesnt print so you basically can split models that way. double click the model and lower the z in whatever you want. it works just fine but cad is much more precise.

You can also split models in the X and Y planes using Netfabb, which has a free version available at http://www.netfabb.com/basic.php
