Sketchup bug

Hi

I have just made a sketch of my house in Google Sketchup

After exporting it into a STL file and opening it in Simplify3d it looks like it should

When I am printing the sketch, it makes all kind of odd planes. And they’re by destroying the build

The odd planes are visible in the "preview" option in Simplify3d

Is this a Sketchup error or have I forgotten something?

The STL file is attached below :)

Re: Sketchup bug

the real problem is sketchup. many people use it for modeling for 3d printing but it is a terrible choice since its not a solid modeler....its a surface modeler. 3d printing requires 100% solid, error free models. sketchup is just known for exporting terrible stl files loaded with errors. you would need to run the model through netfabb and hopefully it could repair it. once repaired then bring it into s3d and see what happens.

Re: Sketchup bug

I used Sketchup for a long time. There is a cheap plug-in that saved me many times. It's called ''SuSolid'' and works surprisingly well once you get the feel of it. In the end I moved onto Blender and Solidworks but still use SK for gears and router CNC jobs. As your projects get more complex you'll find keeping things a solid manifold early and using Boolean operands to progress allows the software to maintain a manifold fairly well. Still, like stated SK and S3D don't seem to play together so I've had to import into blender, tap a few keys then export.
