Export model and supports

S3D has a pretty useful feature which allows you to place manual supports prior to support generation. This can be really useful when combined with rotating the model, placing supports, then rotating it to another angle. This can then allow you to build supports from another part of the model, rather than the bed.

Is there any way of re-exporting the STL once the manual supports have been placed? This would be incredibly useful to me.

I have the Bambu X1 Carbon and can't get good results from S3D 5 on that printer, so I have to resort to using the Bambu software for the actual print due to the quality of the integration (e.g. no Machine Control across the network).

Being able to export the model with supports would allow me to have the best of both worlds.

You can export a factory file which includes the models and support structures, but that file is only readable by Simplify3D.

Have you tried using Simplify3D to create the gcode file for the printer, and then just sending that to the machine via other tools or copying it to the thumb drive on the printer? We actually have the X1C in our office as well which we use all the time with very good results from Simplify3D.

Hi Jason

Yes, I have tried outputting the gcode, copying it to an SD card and printing. I got awful results. It defaulted to 220c and 60c for the hotbed, even though the cold plate default is 35c. And despite seeing the gcode for filament calibration, the flow was terrible. I had to cancel it on the first layer.

The heated bed temperature is adjustable, so you can configure it to whatever you want on the Temperatures tab of your process settings.

For the flow on the first layer, do you think the issue was just that the nozzle was too close or too far from the bed? You can adjust the Z-axis offset to fine tune that distance. It's pretty common that you need to customize those settings when you are setting up a new machine, since it may have different leveling than our X1C for example.

Thanks, but that is exactly why I would prefer to use the Bambu software for the actual print, since I never have to adjust anything. The inbuilt algorithms and AI ensure a perfect print every time, and I lose a lot of that ease of use with S3D.

I still have 6 other printers I use S3D for, so I'd just like to get these models printed reliably on the X1C every time in addition to those, hence the export requirement.
