Remote USB port over IP. (USBIP?)

Currently I have to run a 10ft USB cable across the room from my PC to my 3D printer every time I want to print.
I'd like to do this wirelessly and initially considered Octoprint but I'm happy with the S3D interface and Octoprint seems to be overkill for what I want to do; i.e. print from S3D to a virtual USB port on my Windows PC to appear on the physical USB port of a Raspberry Pi on the Printer (Creality CR-20Pro).

Having a Google around, there's a long-standing project called USBIP which would appear to fit the bill for this : https://usbip.sourceforge.net/
Has anyone done similar either using USBIP or another utility?

Personally I don't like the idea of having a PC running for the whole time a print is running, there's just too many things
that can go wrong if the PC is used meanwhile. So I'd like to throw in an alternative: WiFi SD Cards.

I do own several Toshiba FlashAirs for my printers. This way I can push the files using regular network mappings and
have the printers do their job on their own without any PCs. Depending on the printer (microSD or regular) an external adapter
might be required. And I'm not sure if Toshiba still offers them, but there's always been 3rd party ones around.

Live preview won't work that way, but personally I've never missed that for a second...

Interesting, thank you.
I've not come across WiFi SD Cards before.
I'll look into that as a possibility.
