Newbie and wanhao 4s

Hiya all,

I'm new to the 3D printing scene. I've done a lot of research and I realise there is tons more to out there to research.

I want to print various parts with the best quality finish as I can.
As far as I can understand is that the serious ion is based on the layer hight.

If so, and the Z axis is accurate to 2.5 micron then the only limitation would be the software?

I was wondering if I sliced a model into 50 micron layers would a printer that says in its spec 100 microns, be able to print with half the spec'd layer hight?

For the wanhao printers, can the nozzle be changed with a smaller one like 0.2mm?

Cheers everyone

Becky,

I've used Simplify3D for almost a year now on my Duplicator 4, and now on my two Duplicator 4S as well.

I've heard of people messing around with different nozzles, I do not recommend it. I can almost guarantee that the results will be clogs.

I print at a layer height of 0.10 mm on almost everything, and the results are very good. I also print at slow speeds, usually around 2000 to 3000 mm/minute.

The quality of prints I get are as good as any prints I've seen in this class of printer.

I think one of the keys to getting quality prints is to use good material.

Here's some tips and tricks that might help: http://donfoley.com/3d-printing/dons-3d-printing-tips

Here are some project write-ups: http://donfoley.com/3d-printing/project-details, almost all the prints use the 4 (now upgraded to 4X) or the 4S and Simplify3D

Good luck!

Re: Newbie and wanhao 4s

Hiya,

Thank you for the info. Helped a lot.

I seem to forever levelling my bed.

I've used both the machine and software tools to do it. Never in conjunction though.

When I go to print, it just doesn't like it.

Using simplify it actually digs into the bed, only enough to just Mark the tape. I have used the g code z offset but I don't understand why it's doing it.
The levelling function is set to 0.1mm.
So if my paper is 0.1mm then the machine would use the level height to account for 0.1mm of height?

Need a bit of expert advice with procedure to set up my hardware.

If there was something to guide through setting up for print part in abs and support in PVA would be grateful if you could direct me to it.

On a side note, is there an idiots guide for the software that tells you what everything is and what it does.

Cheers :-)
