Makerfarm stops part way through print.

I can't figure out if this is a hardware issue or software issue. My printer is constantly stopping anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes into a print. The timing varies each time and it stops at a different place each time so I don't think it's related to .stl model flaws that got written to gcode.

I have a Makerfarm i3 8" with Ramps and Marlin. I have a 60mm fan on my Ramps board and it's warm but not hot to the touch when the fault occurs. I've reseated my thermistors so I know they are not shorting and throwing a "min temp" error. My motors are not hot. Everything is in great shape.

When it happens, all of my target temps on my LCD get thrown to zero and everything just starts to cool down. If I go back to S3d, the gcode is still scrolling away if I have 'Verbose' checked. It says an error occurred and to issue an M999 to reset. That's all the info.

I can't determine where this malfunction is coming from. Has anyone had S3D cause a malfunction like this? I still suspect it's hardware but I'm just trying to eliminate potential causes and narrow it down.

rob, that sounds like a hardware issue to me. the s3d control panel is only reading the temps from the controller board. i dont know of any situation off hand that could actually be caused by s3d that would require a m999 reset. if it was one temp i would say a bad thermistor but if both temps go dead then thats something else. one way to rule it out is run a print from the sd card. as soon as you start your print, pull the usb cable from your printer and let it continue to print without being connected.

Another suggestion to add on to jimc:

try watching the temperature plot during a print error. Could be possible you are hitting the firmware's max temp trigger

Rod I was having similar issues with random resets and part layer shifts. I installed a relay for the head bed and have not had a problem since.
