FF Dreamer w/S3D and FlashPrint

I'm fairly new and beginning to have successful prints (and they're sticking nicely), but I have a few questions:

I'm on a FF Dreamer which comes with Flashprint. When I go to print, I noticed there's three options under "Slice Engine": Skeinforge, Slic3r & ffSlicer. I'm not sure what the pros and cons are of each. When I choose Skienforge, my builds come out pretty fast and look decent. For example, a 2x2 Lego-like brick would show a 34 min. print time, but in reality, takes about 40 minutes. When I choose Slicer, it gives a 53 minute EPT, but actually takes about an hour.

Now I move over to S3D, and choose equal quality settings (medium/20% infill, etc..). It shows a 47 minute print time, but it takes an hour and 15 minutes!. The other night, I printed an entire tray of bricks. It gave me a 7+ hours estimated print time. That turned out to be over 10 hours! I know the estimated times are generally off but that's a bit much! Any tips on speeding up prints without loosing too much quality? Or how to get your builds to complete somewhere in the range of the estimated time? I love all the possibilities with S3D, but how is the print speed not faster than the very basic Flashprint? This is why I think I may be missing some key options that need tweaking.
Thanks

Re: FF Dreamer w/S3D and FlashPrint

You aren't always going to be able to get faster printing times because you have to make sure to give the plastic enough time to cool before you print another layer on top of it. So in many cases, the cooling ends up limiting how fast you can print.

If you print times are off by a lot, it's pretty likely that you are trying to move at a fairly high speed and that the machine's acceleration settings are limiting you from doing this. If you slow down the speed, the print estimates will become more accurate. For me, I still print at the higher speeds, I just know that my acceleration settings will slow down the real print time by a factor of 1.3. I just multiply the estimates by that factor when planning.

Thanks Joe - btw, this may be a weird question, but is this printer acceleration something that is just standard with 3D Printers, or is this an option that can be turned on or off through SD3.

Standard. Any you don't want to turn it off, trust me!

On the MakerBot Replicator 2X (and Replicator 2 I believe) I can turn off acceleration. I don't think my FlashForge Dreamer supports turning off acceleration.

When it's off, the Replicator 2X vibrates like crazy when printing at 90 mm/s. It's extremely loud, and the whole printer moves on it's own because of the violent vibrations. I watched the Replicator 2X move an inch on it's own with acceleration off. The vibrations were so strong that I was concerned that printer parts might start to vibrate themselves loose during a print job.

I don't recommend turning acceleration off.
