Re: Simplify3D with Makertbot Replicator 2X

Thank you all for all the help. I printed the cylinders from a factory file sent to me by S3D.

As you see, the print came out perfect! I have to say this is the best surface quality that has come out from the Rep 2X.

There is still the issue that I have not been able to print a highly tessellated model. I was using HIPS on the Left Extruder as support material. There is no Auto-Configure choice for HIPS in S3D, so I manually changed the Left Extruder temperature to 250º, which is the recommend temp for HIPS from Makerbot.

Maybe I should try printing that model without HIPS and see how it goes.

Has anybody printed with HIPS on the Rep 2X using the Simplified3D slicer?

Re: Simplify3D with Makertbot Replicator 2X

DarthRevan,

Thanks for posting.

Have you tried a dual print with S3D? I typically use HIPS and ABS for all my prints. It seems that selecting the "right extruder" profile is fine, but printing with the "both extruders" profiles always gives the bubbles on the surface.

I looked into the default profiles for dual extrusion from MakerBot. The Retraction Distance is set to 1.3 and the Speed to 1500, which I changed in S3D. This profile set to "both extruders" in S3D always prints with bubbles on the surface. Using the default "both extruders" profile "as is" never prints anything, i.e. no filament comes out due to nuzzle jam.

The bubbles shown in the picture below is because both the X and Y axes stop for a few seconds while the feeding continues. This only happens when printing with S3D using the "both extruders" profile. It does not happen with Makerbot Desktop of S3D "right extruder" profile. It does not happen with S3D set to the "right extruder" profile.

I always level the build plate before each print using a feeler gauge, which I think is why my print failure rate is very low.

Has anybody printed successfully with both extruders in S3D?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Re: Simplify3D with Makertbot Replicator 2X

Update: I narrowed the bubbles problem to when printing both objects using the left extruder for the raft and the right extruder for the object. If I print each object individually, the print comes out perfect.

I'm using the default profile for Rep 2X Both Extruders.

Also, notice how the MB Desktop print has some ripples on the surface, but S3D does not.

Re: Simplify3D with Makertbot Replicator 2X

same issue here, onmy replicator 2x it looks like the left extruder doesn't heat up a the correct temperature, maybe the same is true for the right one, i'm going to measure it with a termocouple, but with the laser thermometer the temperature difference is already evident and it is BIG

also to me the issue started to manifest when i've activated the dual extrusion profile for the first time.
while using single extruder everything looks fine

Re: Simplify3D with Makertbot Replicator 2X

somehow my machine profile went corrupted after switching it to dual extrusion
even if the temperature was correctly set in the software the left extruder didn't heat up to the correct temperature (set to 250 it reach only ~160-170)

installed the newer version of S3D and re-run the machine configuration wizard.
this have created a new profile
re-setted the material parameters in the new profile and printed: this have solved the problem.
