Infill layers loose

I'm new to Simplify 3D and I'm trying to get it to work on my Replicator 2. I just did a print where the infill layers were not sticking to each other, and the printer started air-printing so I cancelled the job. For the most part I'm using the default value in Simplify 3D for a Replicator 2. I have the layer height set to 0.2mm, 60% infill. I'd appreciate any help in getting my setting right so this will print better.

I attached a zip file with the stl, gcode and factory files. I also uploaded a photo of the failed print.

It is hard to tell, but is that the first, second, or third layer? I would use auto extrusion width instead of manual at .4. Have you done a calibration box to check / set your extrusion multiplier? What is your nozzle to bed height at Z zero? Check those items and let us know.

Re: Infill layers loose

I think the printer put down two solid layers then the loose layer is the first infill layer, so it would be layer #3. My starting z is set to zero. I haven't printed a calibration cube. I ever used one before. After a couple searches on this forum, it looks like you print the cube and measure the wall thickness and use that value for the extrusion width. I found this post on some recommended settings when printing a cube.

I just restarted my print with the extrusion width set to auto. I noticed right away the skirt printed much better. Before the skirt wasn't going down too well, even though the rest of the first layer did okay, but not great.

Re: Infill layers loose

you dont make that measurement your extrusion width. you need to raise or lower you extrusion multiplier until the cal cube wall equals your extrusion width you have set.

Oh, okay. My cube finished and the wall thickness does vary my a little bit. I took 3 measurements from each side, the average is 0.478mm. In the Auto setting the width was 0.48, so I think that's pretty close. The calibration cube printed out nicely.
