Running 2.2, one of the features I tested first was the "Dense Layer Support". Not knowing this was an issue I was getting crashes when I clicked the "Prepare to Print", then having to restart the program. Went back over my steps and found this setting set to greater than 0 proved to be an issue. I opened up the performance monitor in Windows 7 to keep an eye the memory management, everything appeared to be normal.
Here is what I found:
1-Reset the S3D software to default settings
2-Opened up Process1>Advanced>Support
3-Turned on Support and changed the "Dense Support Layers" from 0 to 1
4- Loaded a STL file
5- Clicked on "Prepare To Print"
Result: Crashed out of the program.
Note: Opened up S3D made sure Dense Support Layers was set back to 0, loaded a STL file, clicked on "Prepare to Print" and everything was back to normal. Memory never raised above 1 gig.

while s3d does occasionally get a high memory usage it has never affected its operation or any of my other programs that are running at the same time...which is usually alot. i have 12g of ram. i just checked and it said s3d was using 7.9gigs. at the same time though i have itunes running streaming video to 2 tvs, photoshop, rhino, safari and mail. not sure if i am lucky or what but i never mis a beat. no crash, hangs or beach ball. thats on a late 09 i5 imac.

I have 16 gigs. I run usually 3 and sometimes 4 virtual machines at the same time. Linux, windows and mac all doing development work. Yeah.. if S3D starts taking up more than 3 or 4 gigs I notice big time. I'm not having any crashes but I do have to restart S3D regularly. I slice a lot of models so this gets annoying.

Well it appears over the multiple versions memory management isn't much of a priority for you guys. Sure is annoying though. Wish it would get some attention.
Instruments->memory profile...you know. Just find out where it's all going and remove your hanging refs

Really... basic stuff here

version 2.2 really has a memory management problem.
32 gig ram, and after S3D and setting up parts to print back and forth all day
I have to shot down S3D to clear ram, but still isn't cleared out, memory cleaner cant clean what S3D leaves.
its a real pain, I have 3DMax and Lightwave 2015 open and they clear out ram after restart.
I thought IE had a memory management problem.. S3D really makes IE look good as far as memory management
this really needs fixing, I get some really weird print previews, and have to go back and forth till the preview looks Normal...
will load some screenshots when it starts acting really weird again

There's another thread about this issue here:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2160&p=10225&hilit=MASSIVE#p10212
I've also directly e-mailed support about this problem, and I got their seemingly-standard non-committal response to bugs. Specifically, they said: "I will forward this to our development team to have them review this information and investigate. However, I can't give any guarantees or timetables on any future releases as per policy."
I really wish they would be more transparent about bug reports and when they'll be fixed. They don't seem to respond to posts on the forums, nor do they have a public bug tracker, making it feel like they really don't want to us to know about their release cycle or bug fixing strategy. Quite annoying.

Yup, appears to be fixed here on Windows and OS X. Great job!
