Re: Custom Bed Shape?

S3D wasn't saving my choice for machine image, so I renamed the stock .stl file and changed the one I wanted to use the stock name.
Also for Linux users:

/home/**Username**/.local/share/Simplify3D/S3D-Software

Re: Custom Bed Shape?

I don't get it. I'm running a Mac and I put my Lulzbot_Mini.stl file in the users/library/application support/simplify3d/s3d-Software/ path and I still doesn't autoload. I have to go to preferences and hit "add" every single time. How do I get S3D to autoload my custom bed shape .stl?

Thanks,
Peter

Read this post: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5403&p=23362#p23362

My guess is that you forgot to edit your profile. If you just put the STL in a folder, it isn't going to do anything until you edit and re-import your profile.

Re: Custom Bed Shape?

I am the OP, I have purchased S3D now, and I have imported and centered my bed STL.

BTW: I am not overriding my machine settings in processes - as I only have the one machine. So I only needed to go to Tools, Options, Machine and add the correctly positioned STL under Printer Models. BTW, while messing with this I set the Printer Model color to a dark color and set the Alpha channel to 255 so it would be opaque.

I tried various ways to try to get the build plate to show properly, by positioning it under, over, or in the middle of the build plate grid... It did not show properly - I could only see it if I viewed it from below!

I saw above that someone had the grid turned off, yet still I could not find a setting to do that anywhere...

I finally clicked "Prepare to Print" and found the "Show in Preview" settings, unclicked "Build Plate" - and that fixed it.

Ugh... for other new users: please add this setting to the View menu, or better yet:
Add a setting in the Printer Models area like: '[x] View Default Build Plate Grid'.

Note that the Printer Models area is misleading. It would be better to have it titled: Add Custom Build Plate/Printer Model", with instructions for adjusting the model position.

Thanks.

Re: Custom Bed Shape?

You can already find that option at Tools > Options, Visualization tab, and then uncheck the "Include build table in virtual environment"

Re: Custom Bed Shape?

Maybe we can have a menu item for this, or a wizard or something. Because I'd sure love to have this option on more of my printers. It's awesome on the ones that I do have it. And this won't carry through from version to version, will it?
