Thank you for all of your advice. Usually I do just split things in half but since I'm fairly new to 3D printing I just wanted to make sure there is not a better way printing things that can not be split in half. I was also just given a few rolls of PVA so I am excited to test out those. Thanks again for the advice!

I've had similar problems with rounded overhangs... and really haven't found an answer. But now that its a topic, I'd like to contribute to the troubleshooting.

- What infill percentage are you using? My machine bridges pretty well, so I had mine set to 10-15%. A higher percentage may create a better support "platform".

- Since my machine doesn't have an enclosure, I noticed the overhangs seperating from the supports. Modifying the seperation settings could possibly help here... 1 (which seems to be the default for vertical supports) may be too high. Try something lower... like .3 - .5

- The last thing I can think of is slowing down the print... maybe the underspeed for outlines setting and/or solid infill settings.


Originally when I ran into this problem, it seemed as though a bug in S3D. Basically, it seemed as though S3D wasn't recognizing the perimeters of the object, and not abiding by the underspeed for outlines setting. It was treating the supports as the perimeters and treating the project as infill...

I gave up on the print... but since you're actively working on this... maybe you could try some of the suggestions above.

I recently did a major print job which was 2 large pieces with nothing but rounded over hangs. Had to do 4 copies and surface quality was the most important part of the print. What I found to work best and I've now adopted it as my standard print profile is:

-Low density support 10-20% Infill
-And then I add 5 Dense Support Layers - 5 really seems to be the magic number here. It gives enough filament layers to smooth out and bridging issues over the 10% infill.
-Dense Infill Percentage at 85%
If I'm really concerned with print quality I will do 1 layer of separation but it can be tough to remove the support depending on the shape. 2 layers of separation is easier to remove
