So my blobbing issue hasn't gone away: I see no real difference in blob reduction using the new coupling that allows for zero play vs the one that had play. I'd expected at least some difference, but there is none. I spent quite a few hours over the weekend messing with just about every setting in S3D (wipe, coast, retraction, etc), but every time a new segment starts, a big blast of filament comes out blobbing it.

Bowden + Volcano = blob :(

yeah thats the drawback to the volcano. it has a much larger hot zone so you dont have that snappy, precise control over the hot stuff. throw a bowden into the mix and its even worse. add a larger nozzle and its worse again.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Here is the result with your factory file.
All model looks perfect except those blobs.
Any other suggestions? What about retract acceleration setting, coasting, wiping etc?

Yeah not a fan of Bowden tubes frankly I believe they are incapable of producing anywhere near as good of a result as a direct setup. The plastic essentially acts like a large spring during retracts and primes. My guess is the best way to improve print quality with a Bowden tube is to slow everything down. Obviously not an optimal solution. Not sure why 3D printing companies choose a Bowden extruder. Ever.

I've recently had a lot of success by using fairly long "Coast at End" distances with the Volcano (plus I have ~1m Bowden tube). For PLA, this distance is generally in the range of 1.5-2.0mm. Not sure on the length of your Bowden tube or the retraction speed that you're capable of, but I'm attaching a .factory file for my 0.2mm layer height (0.4mm nozzle). You should be able to modify the file to fit your nozzle size and layer height (and maybe lower retraction to the range you normally use). You'll also want to comment out the starting and ending scripts as these are specific to my printer.
