Re: Request: First Layer Height setting in millimeters

ReneeCelDesigns wrote:This would be very useful, however it would need to change automatically with the layer height.

if you get you layer height at 0.1mm then it should change to 0.1mm (if you want you can then change this). Otherwise people may forget that their layer height of 0.1mm will not even begin to touch the print bet as in the settings the first layer is set at 0.3mm... this would be very easy to do and very easy to miss, and would lead to a failed print!

otherwise this is a good and simple idea.
This makes no sense! The current method of using a percentage is changing with the layer height so you are saying that this would be useful but it should be changed so that it is exactly as it is??

Also your example would not lead to a failed print, it would lead to a print with first layer 0.3mm and subsequent layers 0.1mm, just like if you put your first layer height to 300% - if your nozzle is bigger than 0.35mm there would be no issues.

Option to change first layer height to mm

I am playing around a lot with different layer heights when printing vases, and the first layer in percentage is really starting to annoy me.

When the first layer is 0.2mm, it is perfect, but I go from layers between 0.05mm and 0.4mm, and I have to calculate how many percentage I should set first layer height to every time I change it, and most of the times I forget it.

Before trying Simplify3D I used Slic3r, and there the first layer can be set to be in mm, and here it just feels stupid having to calculate it constantly, and never have a first layer height you know always will work perfectly.

First Layer Height in mm

Hi!

Please add possibility to define the options "First Layer Height" not only in % but also in mm.

Reason: I have best results to print the first layer if I use 0.2 mm first layer height. So, now if I change Primary Layer Height (just select other configuration of print quality) I must alway change "first layer height"!

Example: I defined "Primary Layer Height" as 0.2 mm and "First Layer Height" as 100% - it's ok. If I define "Primary Layer Height" as 0.06 mm and forgot to change "First Layer Height" to 300% - I habe big trouble with print quality and I can also damage the nozzle or the print bet.

Alternative: "First Layer Height" should be dependent from "Configure of Print Quality", the same as "Primary Layer Height" Option is.

Thank you in advance!

Re: Request: First Layer Height setting in millimeters

Hi Devs -- It's been several years, and in my recent switch from Cura to S3D, I'm sorely missing the ability to specify this first layer height in absolute values.

Conceptually, the layer height and the first layer height are disconnected. There's no relation between the two, but the specification of the first layer height in % artificially imposes this relation. Can we have S3D authors at least comment on this?

Re: Request: First Layer Height setting in millimeters

There is some software out there that does this if you type a number in the field followed by a % it will use a percent value omit the % and it treats it as a exact size.

+1 for this

It's useful to have a fixed first layer height indepent from the other layers.
Like gearsaw said, there is a software which has the Option to use it both ways. Maybe this can be implemented easily

Re: Request: First Layer Height setting in millimeters

Thanks for all your feedback guys! I've documented these requests and sent them to our development team for review. I'll keep monitoring this thread for new ideas related to an absolute height setting for the first layer.
