It sounds more like a design issue than a slicer issue. Why are you unable to create a model that represents what you want to print? I'm still having trouble understanding why you think this is a task for the slicer.

sounds simple. apparently its not.
as you can see in my previous example it's rather simple if you are designing part from scratch, you define multiple shapes, you select what shape you want printed at what settings and it works like a charm.
if you do not design part from scratch but you already have a design that you just want to print, or you are designing it for some other process and just want to print as a step in between and making multiple shapes is inconvenient then mesh modifiers are the only solution, unfortunately s3d don't support them yet
@zemlin, it is a task for the slicer

Solid and hollow.
just like Wall thickness and fill density. is a configurable option.
Not in my book! The configurable options are to vary the width of the extruded material to enable thin walls to be printed and to vary the amount of infill in a solid object as a material/cost/weight saving feature. Making all or part of a model hollow is down to the design.

Here is a drawing of a sphere. really 2 half just side by side.
When imported as a STL. both half at the same time
I get 1 sphere. with no visible wall
as a test I say print it...
Infill is set to 10% but no visible wall.
When imported as 2 separate half I can affect either side and get it to work. with caveats.
1: How do I know the 2 halfs when printed will be joined. also how do I know the 2 half are in the correct place.
as S3d when importing them just drops them on the center of the build table. then I have to manually move them around.
for a simple shape such as this? no problem... for more complex shapes? its risky.

it's rather simple, the part of the object you want hollow, you drill out in your CAD software.
what I'm showing with multiple shells makes sense if you need 20% infill there, 50% infill with hexagons over there etc.. but if you want "this part of the object needs to be empty" - cut that part out ?! that def. is not a slicer's job.. now you can, still do it, with s3d, with multiple parts as shown.. not ideal but works

How 'bout if you explain to us why importing 2 STL files to create one part is preferable to designing the part you want to print and just printing it?

I try very hard not to take a "Why do you want to do it that way?" approach to questions on forums, but I’m afraid that’s where I’m at on this one. IMHO, you’re asking how you can best drive a screw with a hammer and you don’t like the suggestion of using a screwdriver instead.

First off I said I imported a single part that had 2 halfs and didn't work.
second as a test I imported 2 halfs separately. and was able to get it to work
I didn't ever say I wanted to import multiple STL's as your implying.
I don't think your able to help me. with your screwdrivers and hammers. so unless you have something to contribute. please just ignore my issue.
Im glad to wait for someone who might be able to help. or not.

1. you import single multipart object (I even gave you a link to a sample one)
2. you position it on your bed (you can't precisely position it after you separate shells)
3. you go to "mesh -> separate connected surfaces"
4. now you define a process for each part
There is no other way in S3D.
