I was listening to the 3D Printing Today podcast #81 and they talked about a couple tips that can help with this. First, to see if you model is flat or not, you can preview the first layer. I haven't tried this yet and I'm not sure how to do it, but I assume it's easy. If your model isn't flat, you should be able to tell from how the first layer looks. Second tip is if you know your model isn't quite flat, you could position it so the bottom is slightly below the build plate. Certainly not a substitute for the flatten model ' feature request, but good to know this works.
