When a print finishes the hot end just sits where it stops printing, usually still in contact with the object. Do I have to enable the start and end scrip's some how?

G28 X10 ; home X-axis
M104 S0 ; turn off extruder
M140 S0 ; turn off bed

G28 is 'Home All'. You're confusing it by adding X10.

You want to use G1:

G1 X10

This is what is in the default end scrip for MakerGear M2
M104 S0 ; turn off extruder
M140 S0 ; turn off bed
G91 ; relative mode
G1 Z10 ; lift 10mm
G90 ; absolute mode
G28 X0 ; home X axis
M84 ; disable motors
