[ADDED] Grid spacing

This feature request grew out of a discussion on the Makergear user group forum.

How about making the space between the grid lines user definable? As it is on the M2 we get a 14x14 grid on an 200x250 mm bed. Not very useful no matter how you slice it (haha). If the grid has to be a fixed amount, then the idea was to make it 1cm squares on a metric system and 1/2" squares in English units.

But even better is make it user settable.

I have already "complained" about this ;) It is the same for all i think. It should read the machine settings to set the grid i think.
So if you have entered 210x210 as bed, it should be 21x21 squares.

I agree on this. I come from a repetier host background. Allthough Simpify3d is a great software, I miss a lot of features which repetier host excel in, such as the custom grid.
While working on the custom grid spacing, it would be nice to have a smaller grid down to 1mm as well, which could be toggled on/off.

In the discussion on the M2 board another member came up with a neat workaround: Model a small thin cylinder around the z-axis, and anytime you want to know the position of something on the bed, move the cylinder there and double click on it. The dialog will show you the x and y translations, which are the coords of it's location.

Also, you can model any flat surface and import it into your S3D environment as a grid surface. You use the feature in S3D that allows you to include a model on startup. It's in Tools->Options->Machine. I did this for the M2 by modeling a copy of the logo on the printbed. It doesn't affect the slicing and shows me where stuff is relative to where it will print. I also included the binder clips for the glass. Here's what my S3D environment looks like now:

Yeah. I just wish I could remember the name of the guy who thought of it. ;)

I can't get that to work. No matter what model i choose, it will not show. s3d say it is too small, scale it?
